After being out all day and having dinner, we asked if we could hang out in the lounge area until we got a taxi to the airport at 12am. We approached the hotel and asked if we could check out, leave our bags with them while we go out for the day.The offered us a late check out which we thankfully accepted. We attempted to get a hotel closer to the airport for the night to avoid having to wake the kids at a horrible hour for the hour trip to the airport however we were unable to find anything available for our family of 4. On the day of check out we found out that our flight had been rescheduled from 12am to 5:30am the next day. It is within walking distance to many of the shopping centres and tourist spots as well as transport. The food was fresh and there was lots to choose from. It was a great spread and the staff were great. In saying that we were impressed with the breakfast. While the lobby area is nice, the rooms need to be looked at. So to get 2 rooms in 2 weeks that needed repairs told us that the hotel was in desperate need of repair. We requested this be fixed which in their favour they did fix, however we waited for 1.5 hours for them to fix, which ended up being after 12am. We had arrived at night after a long flight, we were all hot and sweaty and needed showers. The bath did not work again however this time the taps actually came off so the shower was totally unusable. There was also someone elses hair all over the floor. Smelly (we later found out that both had previously been smoking floors), wall paper coming off, stained and ripped through rugs. We gave up! The second room was much the same as the first. We asked again the next day however still no one turned up. We requested it be fixed however no one turned up. This was disappointing to them, but also to me as I was looking forward to a relaxing bath. Later when we went to bath the kids, we found that the plug did not hold and the water just ran out. When we asked about it again, we were told it was fixed. Someone apparently came to fix it while we were out, however the fridge still did not get cold. We found that our fridge was not cold, and as we had medication that needed to stay cold we requested this to be fixed. We were initially quite disappointing however the beds were comfortable. The wall paper was coming off the walls and the carpet and couch was very stained. Our initial thoughts when we first arrived is that the rooms smelt old and damp. We stayed in a double room both times (2 double beds). My family and I (2 adults and 2 kids) stayed here recently twice over a period of 2 weeks. They did offer the pool at a sister property 10mins taxi away - but who could be bothered with that! There were both good and bad for the Dorset but given price and location we would stay again. We deliberately booked a place with a pool but found out on arrival that the pool was closed for renovations - we were very unhappy about this as the website did not advise of this. Lucky they found a room for us or I would have been really peeved. We were arriving at 7am after a long flight so we booked the room from the night before and told them twice that we wouldn't be arriving until the next morning, but on arrival we found that they had cancelled the room because we hadn't arrived the night before. We liked the lounge bar area downstairs and were happy at this hotel in general. The breakfast was great - fresh, lots of choices and plentiful. The location was close to 2 mega shopping malls, shops, transport and restaurants. Unfortunately it did at times smell of cigarette smoke, as a lot of these older hotels which used to allow smoking, do. Yes, the hotel does need renovation but the price reflects this - it was well priced in an area of slightly more expensive hotels.
